We are excited to offer Affiliate status with the Sherman Teacher Scholars Program for current UMBC students interested in pursuing alternative certification with a focus on teaching in urban schools and consideration for teaching in STEM content areas. Through this pipeline, we will support students on campus in making a thoughtful decision about entering the teaching profession and expand opportunities for teaching in Baltimore City. Alternative certification programs in Baltimore include:
Participating students will:
- complete at least one school-based Applied Learning Experience per year, working at least three hours per week.
- receive professional advising and support in completing applications for programs.
- be connected with contacts at alternative certification programs.
- attend Sherman Program events to engage in conversation relating to teaching and education.
Students in their final four semesters will be considered. The application includes a personal statement, brief essay, and a resume.
