Thank you for your interest in the Sherman STEM Teacher Scholars Program!
We strongly encourage you to complete your undergraduate admissions package, including submission of your Common Application, high school and college transcripts, and, if you have them, standardized test scores, by the early application deadline.
In addition to the information you supply on the UMBC Common Application, you will need to complete the Sherman application to be considered as a candidate for the program. If you have not yet done so, we strongly encourage you to meet with Sherman Program staff person, Mr. Joshua Michael, prior to submitting your application.
Fall admissions: The Sherman application and all supplemental materials must be received by April 15th. After reviewing applications, select candidates will be invited to Sherman Scholar Selection Day, which will take place on Saturday, May 13th.
Spring admissions: The Sherman application and all supplemental materials should be received by October 15th. After reviewing applications, select candidates will be invited to Sherman Scholar Selection Day, which will take place on Friday, December 9.
The Sherman application includes a personal statement, four brief essays, and two letters of recommendation.
You are also welcome to submit any relevant documents that you believe strengthen your application. These documents can be submitted as attachments to your application. Please note, though, that these are supplemental and do not make up for poor essays or vague letters of recommendation.
You may also use this application to apply for the UMBC Honors College. Admissions decisions for the Honors College are determined by a separate committee. For consideration, applicants should have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in a strong college preparatory curriculum that includes honors, Advanced Placement, or International Baccalaureate coursework.
