The UMBC Math Summer Program is a five-week, full day  comprehensive program  for elementary and middle students who will enter grades 3-8 in the upcoming school year. The program exposes students to their next grade-level math. The morning math block consists of three components:

  • Core Math: During this time, the classroom teachers use the District recommended Eureka Math Curriculum to provide students with exposure to high-leverage skills and standards.
  • Math Gym: This is the personalized learning block where students work in small groups supported by a series of staff to target specific foundational skills based on end-of-the-year data in combination with foundational skills that will support student access for grade level content.
  • Math Advisory: During this time, students experience real-world connections to math in different ways. Students engage in career exploration, solve real life problems, and make connections to math outside of the classroom.

In the afternoon, participants rotate through enrichment learning and structured group time to engage in a STEM curriculum, community building, organized play, incentive trips, athletics, and restorative practices.

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) at UMBC is a chapter of HIPPY US – a nationwide program dedicated to supporting caregivers of young children. HIPPY believes that a love of learning begins at home, and that a parent is a child’s first and most important teacher.

The Lakeland Community and STEAM Center is a welcoming hub for people of all ages and cultures. We co-create youth and adult programming with and for our community, so we may thrive.

The goal of the Diverse Books Project is to supplement classroom libraries in our partner schools with high quality picture books that represent the experiences of the students in those classes as well as expose the students to cultures, experiences, and stories different than their own.
