Pathways to UMBC

UMBC students and graduates from partner schools/communities provide powerful positive feedback loop in those communities. The Sherman Center seeks to support multiple pathways that result in more students from partner communities qualifying for UMBC admission and choosing to attend UMBC.

  • Support current UMBC efforts to connect with and recruit students from partner communities (e.g. guaranteed admission, Best of Baltimore financial aid);
  • Leverage Sherman Alumni and other teachers in partner communities to share information about UMBC;
  • Track students applying/qualifying/enrolling for admission to UMBC who attend partner schools as a long term indicator of the progress of transformational education in partner communities;
  • Connect students from partner schools/communities where possible to Sherman Scholars, Meyerhoff, Linehan etc.;
  • Facilitate campus visits from partner schools (and parents) in structured, scaffolded way and from UMBC to partner schools (e.g. Fist Bump Friday)
  • Maryland Invention Convention
